Erdogan: The end of the Baath Party has opened Syria’s path towards security and stability

The Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed on December 11, 2024, that the end of “the bloody Baath Party” in Syria is a turning point towards achieving peace and security in the region.

Erdogan’s statement came during his participation in the “Face of Brotherhood for International Human Rights Day” program held in Ankara. He said: “This development will increase the voluntary returns of refugees over time.”

Erdogan greeted the Syrians in his statements, saying: “I send my greetings and deep love to our Syrian brothers who regained their freedom after 61 years of injustice and oppression. I also greet all those who put their hopes in Turkey in our region and the world.”

highlighted what was happening in Sednaya prison, describing it as one of the centers of “torture and death” under the Baath regime, saying: “When we look at places like Sednaya, today we better understand the humanitarian catastrophe that was averted with the end of that bloody Erdogan regime.”

Erdogan continued: “With the end of this regime, the doors to peace and security in Syria were opened. As the atmosphere of peace becomes established, the number of voluntary returnees would increase over time, which we consider a positive development.”

Erdogan considered that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights had been undermined by those who claim to defend it, pointing out that human rights had become defined “narrowly based on color, origin, and religion,’ which creates the impression that they are a privilege for specific groups.

According to Erdogan, “Türkiye has been a refuge for the oppressed throughout history, and we did not ask those coming to our doors whether they were Turks, Arabs, or Kurds. We did not ask those who asked for our help whether they were Muslim, Christian, or Jewish. We opened the doors of our country and our hearts to them without discrimination.”

Erdogan also touched on his country’s hosting of Syrians for 13 years, saying: “We have hosted Syrian immigrants in the best way possible. We are the Ansar, and we said that we are obligated to do what the Ansar do towards the immigrants despite the main opposition publicly declaring, ‘We will expel you,’ we stuck to our humanitarian position.”

Erdogan accused the Turkish opposition of trying to “stir sedition with hate speeches to obtain electoral gains,” stressing that “conscience, humanity, and compassion were triumphed in the end.”

Erdogan criticized the Republican People’s Party and some fascist groups, saying: “Attempts to sabotage the positive climate in Syria are shameful.” It is shameful that the party is increasing its hate speech against refugees because of its loss of its allies in Damascus. My advice to them: If they want to understand who the dictator is, look at the pictures coming from prisons in Syria, like Sednaya.”
