Hadi Al-Bahra: The intentions of all parties will be revealed in the fifth session of the Constitutional Committee
The co-chair of the Syrian Constitutional Committee for the opposition, Hadi Al-Bahra, announced, in an interview with the Turkish Anadolu Agency, the logistical arrangements for holding the fifth session of the meetings of the Constitutional Committee in Geneva, to be prepared on the scheduled date on January 25.
Al-Bahra revealed: “The intentions of all parties will be revealed during the discussion of the basic principles of the constitution in the fifth session of the constitutional committee talks,” calling on the international community to assume its responsibilities towards the “obstructing party.”
He indicated that the Constitutional Committee on the Syrian opposition prepared for the next round, as “the specialized committees in the expanded constitutional committee held sessions to discuss the papers prepared regarding the basic principles of the constitution by the Syrian negotiating body (affiliated with the opposition), and came up with complementary papers and a number of proposals,” expressing his hope In the completion of drafting proposals for the constitutional contents of the basic principles of the constitution.
He said, “Most of the issues that will be raised are the subject of consensus with integrated papers regarding them,” noting that “before the next session takes place, a decision will be taken on the methodology and mechanism of discussions within the small committee.”
Al-Bahra pointed out that “among these principles, according to the opposition, are equal citizenship rights, the separation of powers, and the independence of the judiciary, as well as Syrian refugees and displaced persons. “, Indicating that the agreement was made on the agenda in advance, which is the discussion of the basic principles in the constitution.
On the presidential elections that the regime intends to hold this year, Al-Bahra said: “There are no legitimate elections in Syria except in the framework of the full and strict implementation of Security Council Resolution 2254 according to the hierarchy in which it is mentioned,” adding: “There are no legitimate elections before the detainees are released and the fate of the disappeared is known. I am confident that none of the members and representatives of the forces of the revolution and the opposition will accept running for or entering any presidential elections arranged by the system.
He emphasized that all opposition institutions and their representatives abide absolutely by what he mentioned, pointing out: “No one should consider that there is any value to these illegal elections, as they will inevitably complicate the situation in Syria, entrench the human tragedy, and increase the frequency and level of sanctions that affect The system and the personalities and companies supporting it”.
