US State Department Spokesperson: Biden administration will not tolerate the implementation of Caesar Act
Spokesman for the US State Department, Ned Price, said, “Biden administration will not tolerate the implementation of Caesar Act that was imposed during 2019, while maintaining the diplomatic path in facilitating humanitarian and relief work, to reach a peaceful solution in the war-torn country over the course of 10 years ”.
The spokesman added that the new administration “took upon itself an important matter in implementing the law, by not targeting trade lines, aid or humanitarian activities for the Syrian people, and the law will not target the Lebanese economy nor the Lebanese people,” as he put it.
Price stressed that the Caesar Act targets persons and entities that support the Assad regime, and impede reaching a peaceful political solution to the conflict, as called for by Security Council Resolution 2254.
In a previous conference with Price, he said that the new US administration will renew its efforts to promote a political settlement in Syria, with the aim of ending the war, in close consultation with Washington’s allies and partners in the United Nations.
