Nasr Al Hariri sends a message to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres
The head of the opposition National Coalition, Nasr Al-Hariri, said in a letter addressed to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, “The United Nations must refrain from providing any support to the institutions of the Assad regime.”
In his message, Hariri added: “The Universal Declaration of the United Nations Charter and the specific commitments of member states must be scrutinized with regard to refraining from providing any support to institutions associated with countries that commit acts of violence and violations against their people, especially the Assad regime.”
Hariri emphasized that the National Coalition condemns any support for institutions affiliated with the Assad regime, indicating that “member states must not provide any support, in any capacity, for services or institutions established or supported by the Bashar al-Assad regime, or those associated with it.”
Hariri clarified that most foreign entities condemn the actions of the Assad regime without taking any serious action that would expose it to punishment, and without adopting restrictions from the United Nations against the Assad regime.
He called for the need to stop cooperation between UNESCO and the “Syrian Fund for Development” headed by Asma Al-Assad, stressing that “establishing any relations with this fund implies accepting the catastrophic cultural and human destruction of the Syrian people.”
Hariri added that the United Nations must stop using the Assad regime’s “Levant Wings” airline to deliver humanitarian aid, as the United Nations has confirmed that the company is the same that was previously identified as transporting fighters and weapons commissioned by the Assad regime.
He concluded his message by talking about the political solution, saying: “A political solution can only be reached through the formation of a transitional governing body that has full executive powers in line with UN Security Council resolutions, especially the Geneva Declaration and UN Resolution 2254.”
