World Food “demands $ 600 million in food aid for the Syrians
The World Food Program called on the United Nations to provide emergency food aid to millions of Syrians, worth 600 million dollars, in conjunction with the launch of the fifth “Brussels” conference on supporting the future of Syria and the region.
In a statement, the program said that 12.4 million people in Syria, or about 60% of the population, do not know where their next meal comes from, due to the increase in food prices by 222% within a year in addition to the deterioration of the Syrian pound and the continuation of the war for ten years, confirming that they are facing
Difficult humanitarian conditions.
The Regional Director of the World Food Program in the Middle East and North Africa, Corinne Fleischer, warned that “Syrians are hanging by a thread, and as the world swings due to a global pandemic that forces everyone to look inward, we must not forget the weakest countries in the world.”
She commended the donors who have provided support over the years, noting that the Syrian people today need more support than ever before, especially after the spread of the Corona pandemic that led to the devouring of income.
The statement pointed out that the “World Food Program” needs $ 375 million to fund its operations in Syria until next August, including providing assistance to 4.8 million people every month, while it needs $ 259 million to continue helping Syrian refugees in neighboring countries.
