The Security Council and the General Assembly of the United Nations hold emergency meetings today to discuss the current situation in Palestine
The UN Security Council is scheduled to hold an emergency session today, Sunday, to discuss the current situation and recent developments in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The meeting of the UN Security Council will be attended by representatives of Palestine and Israel.
The President of the United Nations General Assembly, Volkan Bozkir, announced an emergency meeting of the General Assembly, on Sunday, to discuss “the disturbing situation in East Jerusalem and the occupied Palestinian territories.”
Bozkir said, through his Twitter account, that the assembly meeting will take place “after the meetings of the United Nations Security Council and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, on Sunday, about the disturbing situation in East Jerusalem and the occupied Palestinian territories.”
He added that holding the meeting came “at the request of the member states of the United Nations General Assembly to discuss the situation.”
The Israeli forces bombed the densely populated Gaza Strip for the sixth day of bombing this Palestinian sector controlled by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), which responded with a barrage of rockets towards Israeli cities.
The meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation in Israel and the Palestinian territories, which is expected to be held today, will be the third of its kind within one week, against the backdrop of the escalation between Israel and Hamas in Gaza and the confrontations in Jerusalem and the West Bank.
The Israeli air strikes on the Strip killed more than 170 civilians, most of them children and women, and demolished a building housing media offices, sparking international protests, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
