Erdogan and Putin stress the importance of joint work between their countries to prevent escalation in Idlib
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed the importance of joint work to resolve several issues between their countries, and the files of Syria and the Azerbaijani region of “Karabakh.”
A Kremlin statement stated that Erdogan and Putin agreed on “the importance of joint action by the Russian and Turkish military to prevent the escalation of tension in Idlib, and to combat the remaining terrorist formations in that region,” during a phone call between the two presidents.
The two sides discussed the decision to resume air transport between the two countries and start supplying the Russian Sputnik vaccine to Turkey.
The two sides discussed the latest developments on the situation in the Azerbaijani “Karabakh” region, where “the work of the joint Russian-Turkish center for monitoring the armistice in Karabakh was positively evaluated.”
Erdogan expressed his support for Russian efforts to ensure the full implementation of the agreements specified in the statements issued by the leaders of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan on November 9, 2020 and January 11, 2021.
The two sides affirmed their joint readiness to continue coordination, including achieving economic development and reviving the transport infrastructure in the region.
The two sides also agreed to continue personal bilateral contacts, while Putin conveyed to Erdogan his “impression” of the talks he had with US President Joe Biden in Geneva on June 16.
