Germany donates 109 million Euro to provide food for millions of Syrians
The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) announced in a statement that Germany has donated more than 100 million euros to provide food support to about 5 million Syrians.
WFP welcomed the German Foreign Ministry’s donation of €109 million to provide life-saving food and nutritional support to millions of Syrians struggling to meet their basic needs.
The statement explained that “this donation will support 4 million and 800,000 Syrians to access life-saving food, and more than 600,000 children to access nutritious food through the emergency school feeding program.”
The statement confirmed that 12.4 million Syrians suffer from food insecurity, the highest number recorded in ten years.
“Basic food in Syria is more expensive than ever, and the majority of Syrian families live each month more difficult than the previous month, and the quantities of food on their tables are less than ever,” said WFP representative and regional director in Syria Sean O’Brien.
“Millions of people depend on food from the World Food Program to survive and improve their nutrition, so the program is grateful for the German government’s continued support to families across the country,” he added.
The statement pointed out that “this German donation comes at a critical time when families in Syria are facing economic collapse, record-high food prices, large-scale displacement of civilians, and years of protracted war.”
