Including the Syrians.. UNHCR in Jordan receives $200 million to support refugees

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Jordan announced that it has received $200 million from its annual budget of $405 million for the current year, in an effort to meet the needs of refugees in Jordan.

Ammon Agency said: “The amount received by the UNHCR does not include providing humanitarian aid to the Palestinians in Jordan, as the United Nations has specified aid for them through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees, UNRWA.”

The Jordanian “Ammon” agency stated that the UNHCR had received 49 percent of the total 2021 budget, as of August 17, with a financial deficit of about $205 million, amounting to 51 percent.

The UNHCR added, that the severity of the Corona virus is declining in Jordan, including refugee camps, especially with more than half of the refugees who are ready to receive the Corona vaccine receiving at least a dose, according to a report carried by the “Ammon” agency.

There are 757,714 refugees in Jordan, which is the second highest country in the world in terms of the number of refugees, including 669,497 Syrians, 66,670 Iraqis, 13,393 Yemenis, 6,009 Sudanese, 696 Somalis, and 1,449 of other nationalities, according to the latest update of the UNHCR.

For its part, the Jordanian government pointed out that there are 1.3 million Syrian refugees in Jordan, more than half of whom are not registered with the UNHCR.

It is noteworthy that international donors at the Fifth Brussels Conference, which was held last March, pledged to provide 6.4 billion dollars in aid to the Syrian people and refugees, in a clear regression from the previous version of their conference, and far from the goal set by the United Nations of 10 billion dollars, according to the “Ammon Agency”.
