Al-Shaibani from Davos: Lifting the sanctions is the key for stability of Syria

Syrian Foreign Minister, Assad al-Shaibani, called on during a session at the world Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, the international community to lift economic sanctions to begin the process of rebuilding new Syria.

Al-Shaibani said: “The Syrians inherited a collapsed state from the former regime, and we are facing many challenges but we have a lot of opportunities ahead of us. The Syrian economy will be open to foreign partnerships and investments.”

Al-Shaibani added that “the greatest achievement for us is not be dragged into sectarian conflicts, stressing that Syria is for all Syrians without any sectarian divisions.”

Al-Shaibani made it clear that Syrians have a lot of aspirations after they were exposed to existential war at the hands of the ousted regime, pointing out that Syria will be governed by the rule of law and constitution. The misery the Syrians experienced will not be repeated.

Al-Shaibani called on the Syrian refugees to return to their country to get benefit from their expertise in the process of rebuilding the new Syria. He also welcomed all the refugees to take part in reconstruction.

Al-Shaibani said: “We are working on building our country as quickly as possible. Our aim is that Syria not to remain dependent on aid, but we are also working to exploit our own capabilities.”

Al-Shaibani confirmed that the biggest challenge we are facing is the economic sanctions, and lifting these sanctions is the key for stability of Syria.

Al-Shaibani continued that “If the world wants Syria get out of the tragedy, it Should supports the Syrian people’s dreams, noting that Syria has started a new chapter now and we want it to be a state of peace.”

Al-Shaibani explained that Syria will not pose a threat to any other country, calling on the world to be a partner with Syria in shaping its future.

He concluded his speech by saying: “We look forward to strong and stable international relations in the field of economy,” explaining that the new administration is focusing on specific areas, namely energy, airports, roads, health, and education, to provide basic services for the return of normal life.
