Washington: We were able to stop the Assad regime from imposing a military solution in Syria
The US special envoy for Syria, Joel Rayburn, said that Washington and the international community were able to stop the forces of the Assad regime and its allies from imposing a military solution on the ground in Syria.
He added, “In recent years, we felt great disappointment after the Assad regime forces seized many areas in Syria, but now we have achieved a lot by finding a position for the Syrian people to achieve their ambitions.”
“The forces of the Assad regime and its allies must be pressured to stop the war and submit to a political solution to the Syrian crisis, and the Assad regime forces are currently suffering from pressures that you did not expect before,” Rayburn noted.
As Rayburn made it clear, Washington is committed to continuing its military presence in Syria “to fight ISIS,” as he put it.
The American official said that the imposition of sanctions continues by the next US administration and in the shadow of the bipartisan consensus on the Caesar Act, and indicated that the sanctions imposed by it weakened the ability of the Assad regime’s forces to support its element to continue the war.
