The Saudi Foreign Ministry celebrates Washington’s decision and its classifying of the Houthis on terrorist lists
The Saudi Foreign Ministry welcomed the US decision to classify the Houthis as a “terrorist” group.
The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that it “welcomes the US administration’s decision to classify the Houthi militia as a terrorist organization and to place its leaders on terrorist lists.
In a step consistent with the demands of the legitimate Yemeni government to put an end to the excesses of this Iranian -backed militia.
The US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, announced that the United States will designate the Yemeni Houthi group and three of its leaders, including its leader, Abdul-Malik Al-Houthi, on the list of terrorism.
Pompeo said the State Department would notify Congress of its intention to designate the pro-Iranian Yemen Houthi group as a foreign terrorist organization.
“I also intend to include three leaders of the Houthi movement, namely Abdul-Malik Al-Houthi, Abdul-Khaleq Badr Al-Din Al -Houthi, and Abdullah Yahya Al-Hakim on the list of international terrorists,” he added in a statement.
Since 2014, Yemen has witnessed a conflict between the Iranian-backed Houthis and the forces loyal to the government of Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi, and it escalated in March 2015 with the intervention of Saudi Arabia at the head of a military alliance.
