The International Coalition to Eliminate Cluster Munitions and the International Campaign to Ban Landmines have released a report on the world’s cluster munition victims for the year 2020.
The report said: “52% of the victims of cluster munitions in the world for the year 2020 were recorded in Syria, which is the only country in the world that has witnessed the continuous use of cluster munitions since 2012.”
He added that 44% of the total victims in Syria were children and 24% were female.
The report pointed out that 80% of the victims of cluster munitions in the world since 2012 were registered in Syria.
He recorded the deaths of 35 civilians as a result of air strikes that used cluster munitions, and he also indicated that several attacks on schools and hospitals were monitored in 2020.
The report indicated that 147 victims were recorded as a result of the explosion of cluster munition remnants in 2020, which indicates the danger of the spread of cluster munition remnants and the repercussions of their use.
He stressed that the Assad regime forces have used cluster munitions since 2012, causing huge casualties, in addition to the suffering of civilians from direct attacks and from the remnants of abandoned cluster munitions.
The report has documented at least 687 cluster munition attacks in Syria since July 2012, noting that Assad regime forces and Russia are primarily responsible for the use of cluster munitions.
IT suggested that the outcome of the use of cluster munitions is higher than the recorded numbers, pointing out that there are many attacks that have not been recorded.
In a detailed report issued by the Syrian Network for Human Rights on February 27, 2020, the Syrian Network for Human Rights confirmed that the Assad regime has resumed extensive use of cluster munitions in Idlib.
